Frequently Asked Questions
How is the Pediatric Health Coach Academy different from other programs?
The Pediatric Health Coach Academy (PHCA) is the first-ever training program, approved by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching, dedicated to training health coaches who specialize in children, teens, and families. Our multi-generational approach teaches aspiring coaches techniques for working with individuals across all ages
Our training program delivers the required health coaching competencies and fundamentals through a pediatric and family -focused lens. We have integrated evidence-based practices tailored specifically to children’s health and wellness, family dynamics and parental support.
What are the technology requirements to participate in the program?
The program is fully online, with a combination of live instruction, videos and downloadable resources. Students will need:
- A reliable internet connection.
- An account with our learning management system to complete homework assignments
- Access and familiarity with Zoom
Zoom is essential for recording practice coaching sessions, a requirement for board certification. Please note that recordings cannot be made on mobile or tablet devices, so a laptop or desktop is required.
How much time do I have to complete the program?
The Pediatric Health Coaching Certification is a 20-week program with set start and end dates. All students within an enrollment period progress as a cohort, creating a strong support system as you move through the curriculum together.
Given the structured schedule, it’s important to commit to the program’s requirements for the full 20 weeks. The majority of instruction is delivered live at designated times each week. Our course is designed to allow for one absence that will not impact your required curriculum hours necessary for certification. However, missing more than one live class may require that you complete the program in a future enrollment cycle.
How do I register?
Our enrollment counselors will walk you through the enrollment process and answer any questions you may have about the course.
To hold your space in the cohort of your choice, a $1000 deposit is required.
Who should take the course?
Health coaching is a versatile and rewarding career that can fit your goals and passion, no matter where you are starting from. Whether you’re inspired by personal growth, professional advancement, or a desire to help others, there’s a place for you in this impactful field.
What is the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching?
The NBHWC credential was developed in partnership with the National Board of Medical Examiners to ensure quality and consistency in health coaching.
Why is it important to be a NBHWC Approved' training program?
Being an approved training program by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching demonstrates that our curriculum meets the highest standards in the health coaching industry. Graduates of our program are eligible to sit for the Health and Wellness Coach Certifying Examination (HWC Certifying Exam) and become National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWC).
If I take your course am I automatically a board-certified coach?
Completing the Pediatric Health Coach Certification will bring you one step closer to qualifying to take the National Board Exam. In addition to completing a NBHWC-approved training program, you need to:
- Hold an associate degree or higher, or have 4,000 hours of work experience.
- Conduct 50 health & wellness coaching sessions after graduating from the approved training program.
Once these requirements are met, you can apply for the National Board Certification Exam, which requires a passing score of 80% or higher.
